Spotlight: Laura Hlohinec
At Medical Staffing Solutions we have more than just great medical staff; we have great staff that does great things in the world, one person in particular, Laura Hlohinec.
Laura is on assignment with us in Hawaii but when she is not working for us, she is working hard to make the lives of three boys in the Dominican Republic better. She has been going to the Dominican Republic for over 12 years now. She started off by volunteering at an all-boys orphanage with an organization from the United States. But due to conflict, the orphanage closed down and Laura spent her time tracking down the boys from the orphanage. Laura found three of the boys from that orphanage hiding out at another orphanage and she has kept in close contact with them since that initial trip. The boys have since graduated from high school; Laura was even able to participate in their high school graduation by walking them down the aisle as their “godmother”. Laura says that all the boys have been raised well and have good principles and work ethic.
Laura does not see these boys as people she is supporting, she sees them a family and she is committed to helping out her family. And her boys are off to college.
In the past month, the boys have all enrolled at the local university and have started taking classes. Laura has been supporting the boys and their education on her on. She raises money to pay for their tuition. The boys do maintain a part time job but most of their money earned goes towards their living expenses and little is left to spend on the extras needed for college.
Laura is a great example of how a little support and great compassion can go a long way. Her dedication to helping her Dominican Republic family has led to a successful story of three boys making it to college.
